What is The Tenure Project?

The Tenure Project offers a supportive environment where junior faculty are welcomed and engaged in programs, events, and dialogues that address the important issues affecting Black, Latinx, and Native junior faculty obtaining tenure in US business schools.

When is the next conference?

The second annual conference will take place July 24-26, 2023 in Philadelphia, PA hosted by the Wharton School.

What is the approximate start and end time of the conference?

The conference will start at approximately 9:00 am ET on Monday, July 24th and end midday on Wednesday, July 26th.

What will we do during the conference?

There will be workshops focused on professional development, self-care, and community building. Stay tuned for a more detailed schedule!

When is the conference application deadline?

Priority Deadline: March 15th, 5pm EST
Applications received between February 1, 2023 and March 15, 2023 will receive full consideration to attend the 2023 Conference.

Regarding Applications Received After the Priority Deadline:
If you submit an application after the March 15th priority deadline, you will automatically be added to a waitlist for conference attendance consideration.
All waitlist decisions will be rendered after the conference registration deadline of May 1st.
All waitlist decisions consider your application AND whether space is still available.

When will I hear back about my application to the conference?

Application Decisions and Conference Registration Invitations: March 16, 2023 and April 1, 2023
Applications received by the priority deadline will be notified of their application status between March 16 and April 1.

When does conference registration close?

Conference Registration Closes: May 1, 2023, 5pm EST
Attendees who have been invited to register must submit their registration form by the May 1st deadline. After which time, we will release invited attendees spots to those on the waitlist.

How much does it cost to attend?

We will cover attendees’ registration fees, meals, and lodging. We also provide a $400 honorarium to help cover travel costs and incidentals.

Is The Tenure Project for me?

The Tenure Project offers a supportive environment where junior faculty are welcomed and engaged in programs, events, and dialogues that address the important issues affecting Black, Latinx, and Native junior faculty obtaining tenure in US business schools.

Eligibility to the Tenure Project is not exclusionary on the basis of race, color, sex, age, religion, national and ethnic origin, disability, veteran status, socioeconomic background, sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression. Participants must be US Citizens, Permanent Residents, or DACA recipients.

Is The Tenure Project for me if I’m in the late stages of the tenure process?

Yes! We are thinking carefully about the resources and support the Tenure Project conference can provide faculty going up for tenure soon.

How is the Tenure Project related to the PhD Project?

The Tenure Project operates independently of the PhD Project and has its own distinct governance, mission, membership, and goals.

I am not a PhD Project Faculty Member, can I still join The Tenure Project?

Yes! It is not necessary to have participated in the PhD Project to join the Tenure Project.

I am not a tenure track Assistant Professor, can I still join The Tenure Project?

Postdocs who are in business schools are welcome to join the Tenure Project. Visiting Assistant Professors in business schools are also welcome.

If you are tenured faculty interested in attending, please email the Senior Planning Committee in your discipline to indicate your interest in being a mentor or speaker.

Are junior (non tenured) faculty allowed to attend the conference every year?

Yes, we invite and encourage faculty to attend every year until they receive tenure as the programming changes from year to year. Our goal is to build community and networks to help support faculty throughout the tenure process and beyond.

Philadelphia International Airport is closest to Wharton. Taxi, Uber and SEPTA (Philadelphia’s subway) can take you to the University of Pennsylvania campus in University City, Philadelphia.
