more

Mary Connor is the new Chief Executive Officer of Common Goal, the award-winning global nonprofit dedicated to using the power of soccer to shape a world where every young person, everywhere, has the opportunity to play, learn, and thrive. Since 2002, Common Goal has built a worldwide network of community-based organizations – together known as “football for good” – that today serves 3.6 million youth annually across 201 organizations operating in underserved areas across 117 countries. Backed by leading brands, professional athletes, foundations, and international development institutions, Common Goal is the home of football for good, elevating the side of soccer that’s not about the stadiums it fills, but about the people whose lives it touches and whose futures it shapes. Their goal: to bring life-changing football for good programs to 10 million youth by 2030.

Mary first joined the Common Goal team in 2024 as the Executive Director for the North America and Caribbean region. This Lipman Family Grand Prize-winning organization uses soccer as a tool for social inclusion, with a focus on fostering belonging and opportunities for refugee and immigrant youth. Under her leadership, Soccer Without Borders grew from an all-volunteer organization in 2007 to a globally recognized leader in sport for social development, with awards from FIFA, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Mackenzie Scott, and the US Soccer Foundation among others.

In 2025, the trio of Common Goal Founders Associates announced a leadership transition process and appointed Mary as the Transition Lead. Following a robust succession planning and organizational restructuring process, Mary was named the global CEO of Common Goal in April 2026.
